  • About me

  • I am a Curator with MA diplomas in Art History, Archaeology, and Cultural studies from the University of the Arts London and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb.

I have started my professional path in Zagreb, Croatia, as an Art Journalist and Radio Presenter.

In 2005 I became a Curator of Old Masters Painting Collection at the Mimara Museum.

My interest in Modern and Contemporary art motivated me to collaborate with other institutions, such as Radnička Gallery.

From 2007 until 2012, I was also the Curator of one of the most acclaimed Middle European private collections, owned by late Marijan Hanžeković, a Lawyer, Publisher, and Philantropist.

In between 2020 and 2022 I was working as Arts Curator of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and Curator of the Qatar Museums.

Moving from the role of the Curator as a caretaker and interpreter of other artists’ works, I have expanded my practice to community-focused arts projects exploring the subjects relating to transcultural identities, cultural hybridity, migration, exile, and object-relational analysis.

"With her curious and thorough work, Leila is consistently bringing innovative aspects to themes that continue to pervade our culture and our cognitive environment."

Nika Pavlinek, Designer, Lecturer at Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb, and Leila's long term fellow worker.

"I first met Leila Mehulic during the CODART Congress in Amsterdam. Her lecture on the exhibition she curated at the Mimara Museum in Zagreb showed an exceptionally innovative approach to curating, and a series of meetings thereafter have ensured me that as an art historian, curator and museologist Leila, is a person of great initiative and perseverance, at the same time diligent and communicative.

In my over thirty years experience I have rarely met someone who has impressed me as much."

James M. Bradburne, Director General of Pinacoteca di Brera
