Four hundred years after his death, William Shakespeare continues to speak to the living man. The bard’s heroes and their dramas, imbued with anxiety and desire, resemble our own intricate lives. The powerhouses still measure up, the brave new world’s paths are trodden by refugees, and the man remains intertwined in the secrets of the heart, beyond all reach of technological enlightenment. Among Mimara Museum’s rich collection, eight exhibits were selected, each hiding the motifs of Shakespeare’s plays and video clips, available via smartphone. The last four decades have seen Shakespeare’s works in all kinds of most different readings. The exhibition's texts contain interpretations present in the writings of postcolonial, feminist, and psychoanalytical criticism, revealing the timelessness of Shakespeare’s preoccupations. By Tracing Shakespeare at Mimara the audience was invited to find their own stories in the bard's heroes and heroines' dramas.
